Intentional Gifting

Your kids have enough.
In all probability, they have too much.

They don’t need more plastic toys, flashing gadgets, or disposable clutter that breaks before the week is out.
They certainly don’t need more screens.

What they do need is time.
Time with you. Time with grandparents. Time outside. Time with nature.

I always feel quietly grateful when someone gifts my child a book token, a cinema voucher, or even a handwritten promise for a hot chocolate date at a local café.

They allow friends and family to mark birthdays in a way that is thoughtful, space-saving and it spreads the joy of the gift out over time.

With that in mind, here’s a list of ideas to help you shift toward more intentional gifting. These are clutter-free options that genuinely support a slower, more meaningful lifestyle:

  • Local café voucher
A small gift with a big impact — offer a pause, a treat, a place to while away a rainy afternoon
  • National Trust or English Heritage membership
Ideal for families and grandparents — it’s a gift of fresh air, exploration, and heritage
  • Art gallery or museum pass
Perfect for thoughtful teens and adults who crave quiet, creative time
  • Local café voucher
A small gift with a big impact — offer a pause, a treat, a place to while away a rainy afternoon
  • Annual pass to a local farm park or wildlife centre
A year of wholesome weekend outings for families with young children
  • Cinema gift card
Great for all ages — no plastic involved, just shared time
  • Book tokens
A parent’s dream. Encourages reading, imagination, and choice
  • Perishable gifts
Ethical chocolate, fairtrade coffee, artisanal tea — beautiful, useful, and gone before it clutters
  • Digital subscriptions
A Blinkist, Headspace, or audiobook subscription gives presence without adding physical things

These aren’t second-best alternatives — they’re better.
Thoughtful, meaningful, waste-free.

Intentional gifting lets you give something that doesn’t take away.
